AL SIG aims to explore the topic of developing and supporting Academic Literacies in Higher Education.
The following aims (thematically mapped in accordance with the four main areas addressed in the BALEAP Competency Framework) will be addressed:
Academic Practice:

To explore academic contexts and disciplinary differences and the extent to which these could be addressed or used to design, develop and support Academic Literacies in Higher Education for domestic students or mixed audiences.
Students:

To explore the range of needs of all students entering higher education in the UK, taking into consideration their linguistic, educational, socio-economic and cultural background and consider the most appropriate way(s) through which they could be addressed.
Development:

To discuss how modules or courses of Academic Literacies in Higher Education aimed at domestic students or mixed audiences should be developed in terms of content, learning outcomes, timeline and assessment.

To explore the practicality of modules or courses of Academic Literacies in Higher Education aimed at domestic students or mixed audiences.
Implementation:

To identify and explore the most appropriate methods, practices and techniques for the teaching and assessment of Academic Literacies in Higher Education for domestic students or mixed audiences.

To identify and explore the issues, the challenges, the problems and the difficulties of implementation of modules or courses of Academic Literacies in Higher Education aimed at domestic students or mixed audiences.
AL SIG will seek to develop a framework of recommendations for planning, designing, developing, delivering, reviewing and evaluating modules or courses of Academic Literacies in Higher Education aimed at domestic students or mixed audiences
